It was Asher’s Christmas Carol recital at nursery and his teachers asked him to come in with his Christmas jumper and a Christmas hat, so I had to get the hooks out! I’d found the perfect Christmas jumper for him (after Ezra had kindly pointed out that all of my other Christmas jumper choices were trash) which had a cute embroidery of Santa in the sleigh being pulled along by his reindeer. Asher was going to be Dasher!
I developed a hat pattern earlier this year, when I made a series of different bucket hats for Asher for the summer. They came out better than I could have hoped, and taught me a lot about pattern making, crocheting a hat, and crocheting in general.

The reindeer pattern that I’m sharing with you today is adapted from these hat patterns.
Materials:
- James C. Brett Flutterby (in colours fawn, black, white, red and brown bear)
- 4mm hook (I like a tighter tension on my hats because they stretch out over time)
- Scissors
- Needle to weave in ends
You may need to do more or less rows than I have, depending on the size of hat you want to achieve.

Assembly:
Sew the ears first to help frame the face. If you can, put the hat on and mark where you would like the ears to sit. If not, fold the hat in half and position the ears at the sides of the head. Move the, 1 or 2 stitches inwards, so that they are slightly more at the front of the hat than directly on the sides.
Fold the ear in half, with the slightly pointier part of the ear at the top and the more rounded part of the ear at the bottom. Sew the middle of the ear to the top of row 6 and the bottom of the ear to the bottom of row 9.
Sew the reindeer horns to row 5, slightly in front of the ears.
Sew the eyes between rows 13 and 14, 12 stitches apart.
Sew the nose between rows 14 and 15, half way between the eyes.
